Bandit
I was influenced into music at a very early age due to having a very talented
uncle who used to be a great rapper and break-dancer. The first records I
started buying were Electro records in the mid 1980’s. Around 1988, when I was
15 years old, I was heavily into Hip Hop and started rapping myself. I used to
be one of the main rappers at the local under 18’s events such as the Leas Cliff
Hall and La Parisienne.
Over the years I was into the graffiti art scene. I used to bomb the trains,
walls and anything really. My good friends and graffiti artists are Toby (aka
Mace), Paul (aka Aroe), Stu (aka Stormer), Ian H (aka Grim), Simon H (aka Term).
I was known as Skimrok 2. We had our own graffiti crew called VIP which was
Vandals in Progress. This was mainly Nigel Bell and myself.
In 1989 I got my first set of SL 1200’s and started to learn how to DJ. I became
very successful and started playing Hip Hop music at Bonkers and Muswell’s
Respect to the old "First Down” Which was Paul + Paul Godfrey!! Paul Godfrey has
come a long way since then! As he is one of the brothers out of "MORCHEEBA"
Peace out!! I was mainly a scratch DJ and a beat juggler.
In 1995 a lot of the hip hop music wasn’t doing it for me, due to a new breed of
commercial rappers hitting the scene....At this point I have to say that from
the year 2000 the Hip Hop scene has got a lot better in my eyes!!
So I started to dj house music, where I linked up with good friend Stuart aka
Stretch out of "Stretch n Vern". Peace out to Dj Toby, Jim Labisko, Stuart
Peeters.
Winter of 1995
I went to my first Jungle event which was Desire, Club UN, Tottenham. Man I
couldn’t believe the vibe atmosphere at the event!! So I stopped DJing and
became a raver! This was thanks To Dan Anderson!!! The music blew me away with
records such as Pulp Fiction and Super Sharp Shooter. I used to go raving with
my friends Kempy, DJ Fate, Andy P, Serg, Scott C, Simon D, Andrew McLaren,
Damien Harrow, Luke Amor, Craig P, Rob G etc etc. One of my old Hip Hop mates
Dale became a successful MC in the Drum and Base scene and still is. He is
better known as Fatman D (respect bro!).
In 2002 I turned my interest into making music for the first time. This was
after going to DJ Fate’s house and listening to a tune on a Playstation 2 which
he made. We both decided to get ourselves a PC and the ‘Point Blank’ crew were
born!! I must say I really enjoy making the tunes and personally think DJ Fate
and myself will go from strength to strength. I have also got back into DJing
again and I am playing out once again but I am letting Fate + Levi take the pbc
into the future. In 2004 was the birth of the drum n bass record label ( Skimrok
Recordings ) This was something I have always wanted to do for years! The
reason being is to help unsigned artists to get there chance out there in the
music world and lead onto better things, but now in 2007 skimrok has joined with
EvilQuest's project1 recordings so the future looks even brighter..
